More info coming when I have it ;)

LARP
aaaah the summer ends and around me the LARP season starts to flower up like daisies in spring. This last trimester of the year we will be treated with Caege in September, Saga in october (all come, this really will be an important one), Poort in November and Manticore in December. Eternica will return after a sabatical, but unfortunatly they organise their event around the dutch/belgian fest Sinterklaas and since I already made plans for it, I am affraid I will not be able to come.
I am going to skip Caege too because in that weekend I will be flying to Pisa for a week of vacation in Italy: Toscane. I really could use it, the last vacation I had was feb-2007. That was of course awesome, we went to New Zealand.
Anyways on the Saga forum things are really busy so things are warming up again.
What also is warming up is Angst. Angst is an event that was organised by the well talented Sven de Braekeleir. Unfortunatly he immigrated to his love in Australia and Angst went with him. Me and also Onno are very big fans of Cthulhu and Angst (most Angst events are based on the Cthulhu Mythos from H.P. Lovecraft) and we decided to pick it up again.
I had done several other attempts to get Angst (which means Fear) back on the track but many people pulled back at the last minute.
Now we have a team of 4 and at the beginning of 2009 we will offer Angst again. Be there !

BAck playing a bloodsucker
Ok, so saturday was my 1st session in Rotterdam by Night. The vampire chronicle in Rotterdam. I knew nobody and was very curious 'how' this group role played.
It was a brilliant succes, I saw no tests, I saw nobody go outgame for 1 second and personally went outgame for 10 seconds to ask what a certain ingame dutch term ment in official terms. They use a lot of dutch terms for the 'normal' english terms so that needs some hammering in my brain, but it improves atmosphere I must say.
The characters in the domain was a nice balance to see as well...
2 gangrel (ancillae, neonate), 3 brujah (elder, ancillae, neo), 2 malkavs(me as ancillae and a neonate), 2 torreador (2 neonates), 3 ventrue (2 neonates, 1 ancillae), 2 nosferatu (2 neonates) and 1 tremere (ancillae).
Normally the Brujah and mostly gangrel dominate because of their uber combat potential, but here the Brujah were not dressed in leather jackets and breaking tables all the time and the gangrel were informative, inquisitive and philosophic instead of sharpening their claws, which was very nice to see.
People dressed nice, the location was more then ok and the ST did not even have to narrate everything and just played his character the whole time.
All in all I ask myself... why did Antwerp not be more like this.
However in comparison to Antwerp Rotterdam is more riggid (not that that is necesseraly a bad thing) and status, influence and backgrounds are not really put down as stats and therfor I wonder if that is good. However the ST has been very in control and seems to know exactly who does what and why... which is perfect.
Short overview of the session:
My character was introduced to the court by a Ventrue Neonate and he was looked at with great interest. Not many kindred of the court had met Malkavians that 'communicated' normally, which of course surprised my character. I talked to many people of the court and was informed with the case of Scarlet a Malkavian that apparently has been tampered with, by her sire, an elder Malkavian Antitribu. The prince himself ordered that the woman would be investigated and if possible restored to 'normal' status. I offered my help and by hearing what they tried to do... need it. Also had a very nice talk with the Gangrel which has gained the interest of my character... can't wait for next session.

Manticore
aaah The manticore machine starts running again. I soon we will have Manticore 16, it all goes so fast.

I was there when Manticore 1 was there and played the insane Crowman there. Manticore went downhill fast from there on. I still played (and enjoyed) Manticore 2. Manticore 3 was really bad and it did not improve from there on. I quit NPC-ing, giving them another shot at Manticore 7 which was really bad as well (fighting and little to no role play). I swore I would never be at a Manticore again. But then they rebooted the whole LARP at Manticore 11. They had a new team... a team of people I knew were very good roleplayers, people I knew well. Still not convinced I awaited some time until I decided to give it another shot with Manticore 13.
I was very surprised. These guys made Manticore, which was known as a fightfest into a rich world full of intrigue and role play.
I played my voodoo kind of priest (amongst other roles) with a lot of fun.
From then on I did not miss aManticore event.
From Manticore 13.5 on I play Jäger a scout/hunter kind of, but with a nice twist to it.
He allways is kind off in the background, but some players know a lot more about him and are working with him in some plots, which is very nice. Also the Gameleaders really jumped into the oppertunitues which made him a reoccuring NPC (played him again at 14, but skipped him at 15 :) ). It was quite hard to find a photo of him (he is on 1 groupphoto and this is the only other one), but here he is, getting diner:
Last Manticore I played a lot of roles. A lot of them were cultists of the liche king as I tend to have the reputation to (when needed to) go all out with the resources I have.
I am very curious what the next Manticore will bring us... and what roles I will play :)
BTW this is the promo poster for Manticore 15.
Me on the front and the dude in green getting beaten to pulp (outgame pulp too) in one of the smaller shots.

Hahaaaa.... thanks to vince I DID find a picture of Jäger... lol never noticed it :)

more vampire

So I found out that they have a Vampire chronicle going on in Rotterdam.
Decided to dive right in and mail with the ST.
He was a pretty enthousiastic and would become one of his more experienced players as they had only a few sessions and most players are totally new to the game.
I asked him what he would like me to play... and to my surprise it was't the Ventrue or Toreador who most needed a bit support but the Tremere and especially the Malkavians.
Malkavians the least supported clan in a playerbase, that was new... so I told him I did not really had a problem with playing a malkavian.
This Thursday he will be passing by and we will discuss my character more indepthly.
Not going to spoil any more here... the clan itself is more then enough.

Ode to Danny the Dreamer
"Ooh Father where are you ?
I have longed so much for you and I waited all the time for you to come pick me up. Greetje is a nice person and so are the others, but they are not You. Father you promised to stay near me"
The view zooms out, showing a single man standing alone on the Groenplaats in Antwerp. The city is empty but him... he is alone... so very alone.
"FATHER FIND ME PLEASE"
his voice booms over the globe... but still he is alone, so very alone.
"I waited like I promised, why did you put wood through my heart?
When will you come back father, I miss our performances, I miss your tricks and I miss your voice."
A little lady with bright red hair and all dressed in pink pops up from under the stones
"Danny wake up... the prince is about to place judgement on Van Rijswijck, you will like to hear the answer."
A man in the real world shakes his head and focusses on this reality, the one he is not master of. The one he does not feel connected to. He is surrounded by vicious predators, ready to fuck him over whenever they get the oppertunity. He smiles at Greetje who smiles back. He mouths a 'thank you' to her and she winks back.
*She is so nice to him. But she just is not like father... when will he be back, let's try again*
While a large vampire rises from his throne the eyes of Danny go blank and he clearly is no longer 'here'.
-----------------------
How I long back for the days of the Old World of Darkness, I had so much fun playing my character there. I really hope someone will soon decide to pick it up again and I'll be the first to be there.

Calam
I though a while about posting this or not, I have decided to post it.
I went to Calam the past weekend. We bought a lot of stuff to get into the game (new clothes, boots, ingame cooking material, tents, furs, food, cutlery) and fit into the ingame setting.
What appears... we did more preperation on the event then the gameleaders did.
I did something I never done before in the 10 years I play LARP.
On Saturday I packed up my things and left the event for what it is.
There was no scenario whatsoever and although we had some fun, it looked no more then a camping trip in LARP style.
Like my fellow Vagant said... we do not need someone to lead me by the hand, but you do need someone to push some buttons. The scenario was null to void, which killed the event because looks were very nice. Everyone looked very ingame.

tents
So me and Onno bought 2 tents.
They were very cheap and we knew they were not in all that good condition.
The seller told us the pikes were made of wood and were packed wet and starting to mold and rot, hence damaging the tent.
We decided to try and unpacked them yesterday.
We did a very good buy on them.
We looked it up and new they cost 270 euro ex. shipping and we bought em WAY less incl. shipping.
Well the pikes were molded, the tent smells a bit, but no real damage.
We cleaned the iron sticks a bit and cut them in size (they were a bit too long).
But all in all I am very happy... sleeping in my own tent this weekend !
Unfortunatly Calam had a visit from the fire department and are putting up silly rules.
Fire extinghuiser stuff etc. It sucks as we don't have one but wanna cook on a fire...
We'll just keep water close... not that the ground itself will be wet enough... fire departments... safety sure... but don't overdo it :S

Calam
ok been very busy lately.
Also with Calam.
The upcoming event of vzw Arrowheads. By many spit upon, but we decided to try it out.
I have bought :
* a new pair of trousers,
* a new pair of shoes
* a white linnen shirt.
* a tent
* cast iron fork and spoon
* my mother in law just called, she bought 6 stools for only 15 euro !
* 2 bottles of Mead (and 2 for onno so 4 in total, 2 with cherry, 1 with lavender and 1 with chestnut, can't wait)
* 3 extra sheepskins (total of 5 now)
I already had:
warm clothing (for bad weather), so I think I am ready for it.
The tents me and Onno bought also arrived and we are well on the way of having a complete ingame living quarters (we still need to put em up to check them). Need to buy candles (Onno has the lanterns) and a chest to put stuff in. What I also need is a piece of cloth for to cover up my 21st century fieldbed and then I think I am ready.
We were gonna play a band of orcs, but since we are only with 3 now (many people needed to go to weddings, cancelled, don't feel like it or are suddenly refraining contact atm) and decided to just play a band of 'Vaganten', which is dutch for roaming students who travel around to learn.
a bit of advertisement... they need it: http://www.calam.eu

names
Ok one more thing I need to ventilate.
What is it with people in LARP and funny names.
I really HATE slapstick in LARP. Sure I played a dude that thought he was crow in Manticore 1 and 2 but if ur a PC and u decide a name like haggis hothead... come ON !!!!!
I made a comment about it and he was seriously offended... some people *shakes head and then starts to bonk his head on the wall*

BACK
ok I decided to kick this Blog a bit back into Life... if anyone is still reading it.
Busy weeks coming up.
This weekend I got my family coming over to watch things from New-Zealand.
The Weekend after that I have a LARP (Caege Renaissance, very curious how that will be).
And the week after that I have Saga and the week AFTER that I have my birthday.
I am still not sure what to do with it though... I wanna do something but I do not know what.
